First the axe. Big, heavy, rusty. It's got those pointed ears on either side of the handle hole and was packed with dirt. I found it on a construction site where a 19th century house was torn down. Lying on the surface. Also, at the base of a huge magnolia tree was a large flat rock. I flipped it over and dug a little but found nothing.
The dome shaped dohicky was found in the woods a few miles from here. I had to "relieve" myself and this was almost in my line of fire. Looks like a hubcap maybe.
The rest was found here on the property. Lots of iron and rust. Three horseshoes with one being smaller than the other two. maybe the front feet were skinny and the back legs were wider like a 70s van all jacked up and hotrodded. The crisscross looks like a foundation grate, there are several spiraled relics and crapola of varying degree of interest. Shotgun bases are literally everywhere. LOADS of pottery sherds and porcelain and bits of jugs or crocks. A fragment of a frying pan, a tool handle minus the wood grips. Bottle necks, porcelain mason lids, broken jars, nails, nails, nails. The bell object is a whatzit we want solved. looks like a bell but isn't. The side garden seems to be filled with iron. The deeper you dig the more you find. I dug 3 feet down and was still pulling out nails and iron stuff. I'm starting to wonder if there isn't an actual tractor buried there. I found the coal pile. Right beside the old driveway near the back porch/kitchen where you'd expect a truck to dump coal. Plenty of nails there too.
I had the rented detector and used it as best I could but it seemed to never stop beeping. I did find three bullet heads and a couple of coins. A dime, a few pennies and a Buffalo nickel, nothing terribly exciting. I decided to dig a hole on the leeward yard and found essentially a non stop pit of glass, nails, masons, metal and rubber even. Bike parts and planks with nails. This yard is covered in stuff under the grass!
I have pictures but it's mainly rusted iron stuff and jug parts.

Sweet diggin's ! Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but could the narrower shoes be mule shoes, rather than for a horse?

interesting. seems like the kind of stuff i've found in my yard... nails (SQUARE nails), pieces of things... an axehead or 2, shovel heads with no handle... rusty shtuff...
and my dad has found an area where they buried lots of glass bottles...
still haven't found any coins or horseshoes...

Looks like you might keep busy diggin right there for a very long time....there is bound to be lots more cool stuff!
