Maybe other f5 owners could help me out. When I turn the threshold knob sometimes the number on the screen doesnt move. Other times it will say -9 until I get it cranked all the way around to the right, then it will change to 9. Sometimes it will move to another number and stay there no matter what I do with the knob. I dont understand how this thing works. If this isnt right then it has been like this since I received it a year ago. If this isnt right, what do I do? If it is broken,, is it possible to fix myself? If not, then what? Dont know it it matters but I bought it from Kellyco.

I have had the f5 for a year now too. Have you tried new batteries? The F5 is an excellent mid range detector. I purchased the 5 " DD coil and can tell you it separates real well.

I'd have to agree.

the threshold knob should give you quick changes without having to turn the knob very far.
You machine is still under warranty. I'd contact Felix at fisher and make arraingements to have it sent back in to be repaired.
There is nothing you can do to fix the problem yourself. I would try a new set of batteries "just in case" first, but It sounds like you have a deeper problem. IF the threshold isnt working correctly, then the machine probably isnt working correctly either. Let us know how you make out with it. Streak!

I'd call Fisher and Not Kellyco.

New batteries didn't solve the problem. Should I call Fisher or should I call Kellyco.

If it was very short term (week or two), Kellyco would probably take care of it.........but since its been quite a while, I'm betting they would just refer you to Fisher direct. You can call and ask( wouldnt hurt), but I'm betting due to the time that has passed, they will just tell you to call fisher anyway. Unless Kellyco offers a brand new machine exchange (shot in the dark)...then sending it direct to fisher would be faster. Call Felix at Fisher......and he can give you the scoop on repairs. He is great to deal with, and will see your taken care of....................... Streak!

The controls on the F5 are encoders. That's why they keep rotating. I would send it in for repair.

I made a call to fisher on Tuesday. Left a message for Felix. Here it is Thursday and I have gotten no return call.

Give him a call again.
I'm sure they are busier than a cat trying to bury a turd on a hot tin roof. Felix has neglected to return MY calls more than once too. Remember the time zone may be different, so try to call when he isnt at lunch or something. If you wait for a return call you may have a long wait!! I'm NOT condoning it..........but it is what it is.... Streak!

This might sound obvious, but try to remove the knob itself and turn the shaft of the control without the knob. (it should just pull off) Check to see if the inside knurls that hold the knob on are stripped and the knob is turning without actually turning the potentiometer. My threshold knob gets stuck for some reason and takes a little more effort to unstick it. I've had my F5 for only about 4 days now but I gotta say, it really is one helluva machine. I'm really groovin' on it....

I called Fisher this morning. Felix gave me a Fedex tracking number and my F5 has an estimated delivery date of tomorrow the 20th.

I am so happy and excited.

Yep. I don't think this thing worked properly when I got it. I had many firsts last night and today. My firsts that I found are a buckle, a decent button, a coin spill containing 5 quarters, a dime, and two pennies all of these coins had dates of the early 80s, an old pocket knife which is in electrolysis right now and doing very well, and 7 bullets 3 of which were older. So I am happy as a lark but really sore from all the MDing. I plan on going back out again tonight but I gotta heal a little bit and I need to go buy new batteries.

Sounds great-man you did put some miles on her and looks like its working fantastic for you..you found a lot of nice things in a short time(don't worry you will be whipped back in MDing shape in no time)! I know it makes you mad the F5 was not tip top when you took it out of the box,but I guess it happens..Maybe your like me somehow always get the bad one. Hope you get years of good use out of it now.(see if you can wear it out) Steve
