I found a ring that looks like gold, but, the numbers inside don't confirm that to me. It has a real diamond in it according to my tester, so, that's a good sign, but, why wouldn't they have stamped the purity inside? The only stampings inside the band say......MW3 and 015. I'm assuming the 015 is probably the diamond size in carats? The only thing I can find googling MW3 is related to Mulco watches. Does anyone recognize these as something definite? I'll do an acid test, but, I'd like to other opinions first.

It may have been lightly stamped and worn away over the years. I have a couple that are so worn that you can just faintly see the mark with a 30 X loupe.

I guess that's possible, but, the ring has very little wear, and the stampings that ARE there, are very crisp and clear.

ahhhh the ole 015 karat...

That means it be... .015 OF a karat :P

Anyway... no clue on those marks... what has always perplexed me over the years is how many ring marks must exist.... AND WHY ! heh

Sounds like you have a trademark or makers mark along with the gem weight.

Can you post a pic?

Doubt it will help, but, I just posted some.....

That does help.

Montgomery Wards (grade) 3 diamond .015 karat

Probably marginal quality. Gold content....who knows without a test.

What does grade 3 mean?

Monkey Wards had their own grading system used in mass production jewelry sold in their chain stores. They are now defunct, but it goes without saying, jewelry sold in retail chains like kmart, sears, walmart, pennies, etc. is not generally 'fine' jewelry.

I'll check with another source when I can, she'll probably know as she's still employed with a jewler and is a jewelry geek that can ID better than I can. In fact I also have a few pieces for her review...probably foreign.

Do I see "910"? That could very well be the purity #.
I say for sure, gold. Grats to ya and thanks for sharing.

No, that's 015, which we figure is the size of the diamond.
