I think it is a buckle, but how old?

Found this today in a very short hunt at a new area. I got permission a while back to search the site and decided to give it a try today. Only survived about an hour before the wind got the better of us and had to return home to warm up the hands. Need better gloves next time out.
I would say a buckle or strap clip But it is not very strong and would not support a lot of abuse. Looks to be stamped. The size is about 1 1/2" square and there are two small tabs on the back.
Hoping the experts here can help us date this.

Looks like a late 1800's - early 1900's suspenders buckle.
