I think I hit a good one. (added pics)

Just got back from the sales today. I had an excellent day and one of the biggest scores of the day I didn't even know I had until I got home. I went to many sales today with no luck. I had to come back home for a pit stop for the wife, then I almost stayed home, but decided to put more effort in and make the day pay. I got to one sale and bought a load of stuff. I will have to make another post with pics and prices. One storage tote had artist prints in it that were in the mats with the cardboard behind them, but no frame. I picked out 3 signed and numbered ones for $3 each. One of them may be a score too, have to have help with that one. Anyway, one had a letter sized certificate with it and an envelope behind it, so I thought the envelope must have been what the certificate was in. I got home, and the envelope had two 1 dollar bills in it. I noticed some writing on them, and saw that they are both signed by the Secretary of the Treasury above the printed signature. Cool! Since the sale was only a few miles from my home, I took off to go back over there and tell them I had an item out of the storage tote over there that I didn't pay for. I paid him (he tried to refuse payment as a reward for my being honest, but I told him to take it because I knew I did well on the other stuff). I get back home and start researching, and I notice it might bring a few bucks signed like that. Now, I notice the serial numbers. They are consecutive. Bill #1 is serial # 00000089, and bill number two is #00000090. What have I found here?

Pics will be forthcoming, when I get a chance. I also picked up a nearly new Nolan italian helmet, a set of fire king jadeite tableware, a danish modern lamp with atomic pattern shade, a 1969 corvette console bezel, signed and personalized Dana Forrester print, 2 other prints, one of which is a very old oriental wood block print, a tea pitcher which may be blenko, an art deco lamp from LDB&Co, NY, and a pair of large antique brass pheasants. I also picked up a craftsman garden tractor that runs flawlessly at another sale. For all the above, I spent about $250. The corvette bezel or the helmet should cover that.

Yeah, ditto on that. I had the worst day in years because I had to wait 2 hours for AAA to show up at my house because the keys got locked in my car.

Here's the bills, notice the low serial numbers. Should I get these graded, or are they worth the extra expense?

That's a cool find, Cheese. I remember Baker as the Sec of State under George Bush, but didn't know he was Sec of Treasury prior to that. I'd probably list one of them and keep the other for myself. Great score!

Ill trade ya an uncirculated 1963 Red seal $2 bill for em! It's worth about $8-$10 bucks... but seriously what do you want for em? If I were named Nikki or what ever the other name is Id really really want that one so you might do real well on those! I bet he got the first 100 bills of that run & he signed & gave them away as gifts If I had to bet on it.

I can't name a price yet. I saw one sold that had a 3 digit serial number and was not signed. It was $55 but the seller took the best offer whatever that was (I wish they would show that). I think a signed pair of older and lower numbered consecutive bills would be more. Still researching.

When I sell something that is unique like what you have, I go on the bay and look for a bunch of sellers that sell that kind of item. Tell them, this is what I have, I have no idea what it's worth, but ill be starting the auction on this day at this time. They should check them out! I've had a huge response every time I do that. I've done it with fishing lures, movie posters from the 60"s and some old cowboy cards. Takes some time to do, but it may be worth the extra effort!

Tip: to find the "best offer" price goto the auction page and click "print" . The print preview page shows the accepted price.

Very nice. I doubt your going to find another one that has been hand signed by James Baker to value it. I just hope the names don't detract too much value from them. Good luck with them and let us know how it turns out. Here's a couple similar (most similar I could find anyway) that are listed now- Lot of 2 Consecutive Serial Numbered 1974 $1 Autographed Notes | eBay
There have been other notes signed by other treasurer's that have sold recently.http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odk...ned+money&_nkw=treasury+signed+money&_sacat=0

The names on them definitely do affect the value I can guarantee that much! Their personalized & that always detracts from the value. I have a Pete Rose signature on a Church hill downs horse race betting booklet from like 1982 (before he got in trouble for gambling). My parents saw him at the track one day & got the autograph but it's personalized "saying... (To Bobby Good Luck)" Pete Rose. Robert/Bobby is a common enough name to not completely kill the value but it would be worth a lot more had it not been personalized.

Wait whats this one? looks to be very similar to yours, signed by Baker, 2 digits (00000097) personalized (with first & last name), except it's also dated & graded or authenticated. Sold for $61 + $4 shipping Secretary of The Treasury Autographed Currency Certified by Paper Money Guaranty | eBay

I'd say that one is pretty comparable. I guess they aren't worth as much as I was beginning to think they were. Thanks for the link... that's a close serial #, same date, same signature. A little worse with the personal note, and not a consecutive set, but that's as close as we'll find I bet.
