Hello, I found the site of a lakeside resort near me and was all too happy to scout it out. The water was high, so i could only cover the shoreline. I saw lots of iron and knew it was gonna be an uphill battle. Well, 2 hours on the desolate beach netted me:

Metal social security card- i need help pinning a date on it
A room key tag (i think)
three spoons (for eating wheaties?)
An old earring
1 zincoln 8)

I look forward to the dry season :)

Sweet S.S. card!

Neat finds GC.
I remember having a gold plated SS card back in the 70's.
Congrats,

oh cool finds Golden, I have never seen a metal ss card.. cool cool finds.

Nice - I found one of those cards approx. 2 yrs ago -

I'd hit that place again for sure ;D

Because of stealing id today, you should turn it in to police or SS office. You don't want somebody else to use that number and you get in trouble for it. Good you blocked it out.

SKD

I can't even read it, so i think were safe. I looked on the ancestry site and everyone with similar numbers were born in the turn of the century, so this card could be old

Those look like they hold up a lot better than the crappy paper SS cards they give out nows-a-days.

Very cool find for sure.
I may be wrong but here is my 2 cents.
This may date me a few years but I remember having a copper or tin SS card.
The card was not from the SS office but made at a 5 and 10 store down town.
The numbers were punched in the copper card along with the name. Kind of like a dog tag punch but cleaner look.
I am sure it was not engraved but punched. Think I was around 12 at the time and remember the day and putting it in my wallet. lol
My grandfather had it made for me to keep the paper one in his safe. Guess he thought I had a better chance keeping up with the copper one.
Your find has me wondering what ever happened to the one I had. :o
Again congrats on your super cool find!
Piece of history!

thats what i'm thinking- I think mine might be one you had to buy yourself. however, with no manufacturer named, i don't think i'll ever find out exactly how old
