I remember...

how back in my youth when I first moved out on my own that often I would go hungry. I was living on $125 take pay a week. $100 went to rent and the $25 for everything else. One night I was hungry and all I had in the fridge was water and a bottle of french salad dressing. I drank that whole bottle as dinner. Those were some hard times.

I remember $60 a week salary and $125 a month rent (mid 60s). 'Course I was young and had no insurance to speak of, nor a car payment (took the bus), nor kids.

Things were so much different back then. It was almost depression time for my folks. I was 16, then 18, when radical changes came to my family and my folks. My senior year in high school, I was on my own; own apartment, own salary, own struggle to meet high school requirements. I did graduate on time with a part time job to pay my rent, groceries and transportation. Looking back, it wasn't a struggle at all, but an adventure. I was having fun and life was a kick. I wouldn't change that part of my life at all. The next 10 years I would change drastically if I could. - Noodle

I remember getting booted out of my grandparents home and sleeping in my car one entire winter.
I worked part time at a little market and parked in the back lot.
I covered up with everything I could find to keep me warm, I survived but not going to do that ever again.
