I recently purchased a Minelab Excalibur 1000

No it is not normal for that to happen at any setting. Did you buy it used on ebay? Either way you may need a new coil and Minelab can fix it for $$$ unless it is still under warranty.

i think ? that the higher sensitivity may cause some falsing....it does on mine when i try and run it too high.... minelab just replced my coil this spring ? unless they put a bad coil on it when i bought it ,and when they replced it, i would say that running the sensitivity 2 high may cause some falsing signals....these are just my experiences with the excal 1000 and i am by no means an expert, on anything....good luck with the new machine.

Robert,

If I lightly graze the ground with the coil on my Excalibur II, it won't false. But if I hit a sand dune hard, or hit the bottom hard when I'm in the water, it will false occassionally - no matter what the setting.

Both of my other detectors - one is a Garrett, the other a Whites DFX - do the same thing.

Sounds like you have sand between the coil cover an the coil. Just pop it off an clean . Or check the nut going to the coil it might be loose. ..........................Cotton :tongue3:

Agree with cotton on sand in the coil cover. Then again, some beaches give more falsing than others, as does diving on some beaches. Try some different areas, maybe some dirt areas without electrical interference for a base line. My advice. Worth what it cost you.

Thanks for the help

The area where the loop was giving me problems was highly mineralized red clay. I tried it in a sandy area and it works much much better there.
