Couple nights ago I went to one of the big thrifts nearby. It appears they put a lot of new stuff out. I saw some large items put out for those eclectic types that I did find interesting. I guess if I lived alone my house would be full of many of the things I see, so I'll instead just stick with the small stuff, because I can keep it all pretty much out of sight and out of the other mind I share this house with. I found this interesting stickpin hanging on the rack of costume jewelry. It appears to be a gold one and tips the scale at 2 grams. I thought the carved relief was done in a shell, but looking closer it appears it's a natural stone that my guess is a milky translucent chalcedony or maybe just milk glass?. I'm thinking it's from around the early 20th century. It does have marks on the pin, but I can't make anything out of them. I'll run it sometime to the pawn shop to see what they think, because they do the touchstone acid test. On the pointed end of the pin it's been worn down some, possibly on a stone before and it looks solid gold throughout.
