I need some good advice

L33,

lot of folks dig all their targets.

Being new, with a new detector, I would say
it is a must.

Don't know what detector you are using but;
It is a way of getting to know your machine. Keep
track of what the machine tells you and what you
find.

After a bit, when you get a hit, you will say to yourself
dime, or pulltab, or ring; and when you dig it, that is what
it will be(BUT NOT EVERY TIME). At that point you decide
what signals you want to dig. Keeping in mind that no
machine is perfect, perhaps you will decided that you will
continue to dig every target.

Hope this is of some help.

have a good un.......................

Thanks Sherm! I guess if I dig up everything I'll get a feel for the way it thinks. By the way its a Camo Ls. I hope its a good one.

DIG IT ALL!!!
I JUST got back inside the house.
I got a bounty hunter pioneer 505 for Christmas.
have been scrounging around the school (when it hasn't rained for the last week).
I was playing in my front yard a few hours ago and found THIS!!!!
I don't really care if it's real or not, this has just got the wife off of my back, if the pictures came through, it has 4 red stones, 4 green stones, 4 blue stones and what looks like a diamond, I just rinsed it off in the sink and it looked like brand new...
It showed up as a PULL TAB!!!!!!!!
I have just justified my metal detector to my wife!!!!
I'm gonna post this in todays finds Now!!!!!

i agree. look at it this way. the only way to find good stuff, is to get experienced and also to understand what the detector is saying. so the more you dig, you increase both.

ill tell you, now, even after many years and many trips, i will still dig a few pretty obvious junk signals. i will give at least a few "iffy" readings a shot. even if it turns out to be junk, you will have learned something about the machine. your experience goes up a notch with each target you dig. and after a while then the really good finds start to be made. enjoy the experience. also dont think of any junk as being a waste of time, everything you dig up has some history behind it.

a lot of times, sure, a junky signal will be a junky target. but how do you know FOR SURE.....gotta dig it. if all im digging is junk then i will stop digging and just go for "good" readings but i get a kick out of anything i find. as long as im still finding a coin here or there i guess. kinda depends on what kind of mood im in.

p.s. the "deep" "iffy" readings i will usually go ahead and take a plug and give them targets a shot. if its really shallow i will probably not dig it. on the other hand, ive found worthwhile targets, including silver, within an inch of the surface.

P.S.
This thing showed up as a pull tab at 4"
and was at about 2"-3" GOT A REALLY WIERD SOUND ON MY BOUNTY HUNTER

CLint

P.S.S. I just started playing with metal detectors, I'm a dig every signal for lifer now!!

Thanks,
even if I don't find anything else for the whole of 2007, the wife will still not give me grief.
but I plan on hitting some sites that have some older stuff, and I will dig every signal I get, just to make sure!!!

WELL , JUST LIKE EVERY ONE IS SAYING, DIG IT. IT'S THE TRUTH. YOU MUSTS KNOW WHAT YOUR TOOL IS TELLING YOU BEFOR YOU CAN SAY DIG OR SKIP. JUST REMEMBER YOUR TOOL WILL ONLY TELL YOU SO MUCH YOU MUST GET TO KNOW WHAT A PENNY SOUNDS LIKE AND OTHER THINGS SOUND LIKE ALSO. SO DIG FOR NOW, AND YOU WILL GET BETTER AT IT. GOOD HUNTING AND HAVE LOTS OF FUN IN THIS GREAT HOBBY....... 8)

GOOD LUCK LEE
