Based on just the two photos you posted (we need more), it appears to be what we Militaria collectors call a "mixed marriage" relic. That means, it is composed of (at least) two parts from relics which did NOT originally go together. In your case, it appears to have a cavalry sword's blade stuck into a saber-bayonet's brass handle. That type of handle has a ring-shaped brass section above the curved "J" at the front of the handle, and the rifle/musket's barrel fitted through that ring-shaped section. It seems to have been bashed down somewhat on your handle. As I said, we need more photos to be sure about what it is.

TheCannonBallGuy is 100% right on this. This looks like an abortion you'd find at a flea market when the seller has loose mismatched blades and handles and has a bit of metal working ability. He'll be happy to tell you it was carried by his great, great, great grandpappy in the Civil War!:laughing7:

As said the handle is of the style of many of the mid 1800's bayonets used by the United States, with the blade being from a sabre. The $50.00 question will always be when did the marriage take place? IE was it a period done field repair or was this done later to make a buck?

The blade looks like it's been sand blasted so there's probably no hope of ever finding a mark on it.

The handle looks like a bayonet for the Remington Model 1863 Zouave Rifle. But there are a few others it's more likely to be, such as the Model 1841, Model 1861 Navy Spencer, to name a couple.

Pull the handle off and chuck the blade in the yard for a while and you'll have a genuine Civil War battlefield dug, relic saber like the guys at the flea market sell :laughing7:
