I don't think anyone is going to give up a good known gold honey hole. In general go where people go. For older silver coins, go where people were going pre '64. What area are you in?

Hello Sergey

Welcome to Treasurenet!

I would advise you to spend some of the cold weather time researching local history. Take notes when you see where things used to happen such as an old amusement park or any place people used to go and don't so much anymore.

I would think Long Island has had enough population for long enough that almost anywhere you swing your detector you should be finding something. You also have a longer history than a lot of us in other parts of the country, so you have the chance to find older relics than a lot of us.

Webatch duk any good site where can I find information about history of Long Island and old maps ?

First start with the basics, History of Long Island - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia . Google is your second best friend. There is a lot of historical significance in your area. Which means there are probably a LOT of LAWs to learn. Even private property searches may have restrictions.I would suggest you find a local shop and maybe post an ad on Craigslist looking for a partner/mentor. There seems to be no shortage of people in this hobby/sport willing to help a fellow md'r. But the first thing you need to do is start learning the history of your area. Find old homesteads, roads, parks..See if you can find some old photo's online or in a local museum then try to match it up geographically. Using the detector is easy, finding the right area to look isn't. I think that is part of the fun. But FIRST learn the laws. One wrong thing and you can end up spending enough to buy me and you a brand new ctx3030 and then some.

History of Long Island - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia click on that red link...that is wiki. then just search the links on the page. You'll find a lot of information there. After that I suggest you post on craigslist.org for a detecting buddy. Someone from that area will be able to point you in the direction far better than me.
