I might have found my first round ball

Hey guys I found this round lead ball in a old park where I've also found 3 ringers. It weighed in at 245 grains. I saw that 251 grains = .550 round ball. There is also a place on the ball that's flattened. I also took a measurement so tell me your thoughts please and thank you.

I can't believe 83 people didn't know if it was a round ball. I guess I'm not alone. LOL

Looks as if you found a 'Heavier ' 54 cal ball , I don't recall if they made 55 or 56 Round Ball , it does seem there would have been a 58 cal but I do not see one in my Smaller Handbook.

The patina Suggests It was found in or near Water Unless like when I found my first 36 cal Ball that was also my 1st CW ? Lead I cleaned it until it was Grey again. Still got it tho.
Also looks to have the casting seem , & found near other 3 ringers . Your chances are Good IMO

Yes, round musket ball. If found in Louisiana could be Civil War period or a lot earlier. In Maryland most of the ones I've found have been colonial to Revolutionary War, a few sites have 1812 or CW too. I remember reading once where the Chalmette Battlefield was, the area the soldiers had fought on is now 5' deep now.
