I normally try not to buy things for myself, and that was not my intent when I bought this. But since owning it, I fall in love with it a little more each day. It's original wiring is intact and the switch works as well. The shade makes this item valuable. The lamps sell for around $50, but with the correct shade it should easily go in the 100's. I'll probably keep it though, he seems to like where hanging with me as well...

I paid $10 for him.

Nice piece of cast iron. I see a couple hundred there myself. I don't know if I would part with it yet either. Popeye has withstood the test of time and should be collectible for years to come still.

Does the shade show all 4 characters on it? Just wondering if the shades are all the same or if they came with different ones. I see Bluto, Wimpy, Olive Oyl, and Popeye on the images of different ones shown on google. It looks as if they may all be depicted on the same shade.

There ARE two different shades. This is the one that has Popeye stealing a duck, and he is running from Wimpy and Olive Oyl. The other one has Wimpy and Olive Oyl standing watching Popeye and Bluto fight on a ship. I do not have that one.

I was actually wrong about the cast iron. Upon further research it is a heavy pot metal. Doesn't change the value, but I like to be clear in case any of y'all see one of these somewhere.

That $417 sounds more accurate than a few hundred! A set of 8 Popeye bakelite napkin rings just sold at a local auction for $185. + 10% So over $200 all said & done. I would think that lamp & shade would easily be more valuable than those! Excellent score!
