Hallo everybody and first, I´m sure you know how to forgive my english, I´m portiguesse and not ussed to write in your lenguage. My questin is for me quite dificult, well I inherit an discriminator fisher vlf 553-D with a plate that is marked with Fisher VLF GNC, The detedtor uses 12 baterys and, after an profesional cleaning, it seems to work O K, but I use a moder Garret, and I find a lot of diferences with into them, The older one only detect objets quite near, ad quite big like manhole covers, no littel objets, and it can not discriminate into diferent metals, It´s quite cute but I´m sure it worked better in the past. or not? :icon_scratch: Is normal all I´m reported ?, is this detector too simple and less usefull ? or could it has any add problem in the circuits or in the plate. Well I hope you can understand my question. thanks and, see you later.

Welcome Roberto_ ! although I am not familiar with that Model,
I would guess some of the problem is it age,
and some of it, is your experience with a newer more advanced model.

the older VLF probably needs to be swung a bit faster over objects also.

when you had it professionally cleaned, was it by a Fisher tech. ?
if it was they would have checked it's working order right away.

Welcome to Tnet Roberto!

I Googled the 553-D, and found an article posted on the Compass Metal Detector Forum 2 years ago quoting problems just like you mentioned. You might search for that thread on Google.

The end result of that discussion was that the owner should just get a new detector - not worth repairing....

The best of luck to you!!!
