Hello all! I have been reading the posts here for awhile and finally got up the gumption to join. I am from Georgia and from looking at all the tips you guys have posted and thinking about stuff I realize that I have a virtually unlimited number of areas to search here. There are multitudes of old home sites, really old churches, ballfields, civil war sites, and and a couple hours drive away is the old gold mines in North Ga. There are also the gemstones I can search for in South Carolina and North Carolina! The Georgia Coast and beaches are a couple of hours drive away also! I am on disability and still trying to figure out how and which model of detector to buy for these areas. Primarily I am gonna work on old home sites around where I live and I even have a couple of homes where the owner wants me to search already! The owners told me about family rumors of caches buried on the properties! A couple years ago one of my friends told me about such a cache and we searched for it using an old Radio Shack detector. Took me alot of detective work and scratching my head but we found it at last! It was in the middle of an X made by the corners of the back of the house, an old oak tree and an old well. Got a really weak signal from the detector(that was a miracle in itself) and dug down about 4 inches and saw the metal top of an old mason jar! We dug it out carefully and it was a gallon size jar filled 3/4 of the way with silver dollars, half dollars, and even had an old gold pocket watch on the top of the pile! My take of the pot was 212 coins and my buddy got the watch which was a family heirloom. He gave me $50 for my part of it tho. Amazingly, the top was intact! No water had gotten inside so evidently hadn`t been in the ground for too many years. I can`t remember the dates of the coins because its been awhile but I remember them being from the early 1900`s. The watch even had a pic of my buddies great-great grandad! I needed the money at the time badly so I went through a dealer to sell the coins and he was flabbergasted at the site of all those coins and their condition! Somewhere around here I have pics of the whole cache and I`ll post them when I find it. Heres to a good day and happy hunting!

I know I know...................seeing is believing. I`m trying to find the pics of that cache and I`ll scan and post when I find them. I went out today and scoped out a new site where the house is over a hundred years old. I have a digital cam and will post story and pics when I`m done. The owner will split anything I find 50/50.
