Confederate Drooped Wing Staff Button found.............my first in 25 yrs!!!
Well it didn't happen yesterday..... but I'm pretty sure I scored #8 for the year today! Hunted hard for it and didn't think it was gonna happen. One of the last signals of the day between two young saplings and out pops a fat puffy vest button with a loooong shank. Where I found it was not too far where I dug the Mississippi I coat button and I have a feeling this button too will be either Mississippi or Texas by its shape. It has way too much leaf mulch on the front to definitely tell what it is. I'm gonna let this button dry out overnight before I do anything to it. The soil in this area is someshat acidic. My Mississipi I buttton faired pretty good in it but my 2 Virginias had a lot of ground action, especially the cuff. So I'm gonna take some time cleaning this one. Other than the button I found 7 Gardners, 5 Georgia teats and 1 bullet that I havn't identified yet. Got some musket balls and a lone percussion cap. I'm worn out but it was a great day of digging some Confederate relics! I'll post an update on the button tomorrow. Hope everyone gets their coil over something good this weekend! UNBELIEVABLE!!!! My first droop wing Confederate Staff button!!! Alberts 25B or Tices CS269As1. 16mm made by C. Rouyer. Perfect specimen with shank and plenty of gilt! I will get a picture of it up shortly!!!
