I lost two coin machines this week because of a high volume hunter

Well.. I went to dump my halves today and sure enough at two of the banks they set the machine to no longer accept halves. I spoke with both of the managers at the branches and they said that they had a guy come in the past three weeks and dump $5000 in halves at each dump. :BangHead: They notified the man that it was the last time he can do it and now modified the machines so they can no longer accept halves.. I didn't know this and when I attempted to dump, my coins just spun around and wouldn't be counted so I know they aren't lying to me. I have no problem with high volume hunters in any way and used to hunt 10 boxes a week, but I just can't believe someone would put that kind of burden on just one bank. These are small branches mind you.. The managers both apologized to me but said they will not make any exceptions. This seriously screws my entire friday dump and pickup run.. PLease PLease people.. If you are taking on the responsibility of hunting that much coin, than take the responsibility of unleashing them into the wild the correct way.. SPREAD IT OUT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!! This guy completely screwed my setup just so he could get rid of some bulk in an area he doesn't frequent.. Whoever you are.. Thanks a lot..

Sorry to hear that CC, that would definetly piss me off to no end, the most I bring to a bank is 2000 and that is in coin lock bags with 500 in each, and I talked to them before hand to make sure it was OK to do so and how much at a time, they told me I could bring in much more, but, I never go over 2000 a dump. Now a machine ( which I don't have any around me) I would be hard pressed to try and dump more than 500 into it, I think 250 would probably be the safer bet, unless someone talked to the branch manager first and worked it out them before hand. I agree, $2000 is a good number.. Anything over that is just too much.. Looks like I am going to have to start rolling the other half of my order.. This guy was just hopping out of town and getting rid of bulk where it wouldn't directly affect him if it backfired.. Sure enough, it affected me..

The bank where I dump the most has already calibrated machines at the branches closest to my work and home not to take halves, so I have to go a little out of my way to use the machines that still take halves. I hope I don't lose those. I'm sensitive (probably hyper sensitive) about this and the most I've ever dumped in halves at one time is around $300. I don't even want to fill up a machine and cause someone to come over and see all the halves I'm dumping.

Given how low long it takes the average (non-CRH) person to accumulate change (unless they are a merchant), I am often asked things like "Wow, how long did it take you to save all this change" when I bring a slip to the teller to deposit the $200 or $300 I dumped into a machine. I can't imagine the reaction if I walked up with a slip for $5K (does the machine even take this much at once?).

CRHs have to use their brains. IMO, you can't expect to fly under the radar or avoid problems if dumping thousands, unless you've worked out a previous understanding with the branch and they are fine with you bringing in large amounts of coin. I believe the coin machines in lobbies are largely a marketing gimmick to let people dump their piggy banks, I don't think the banks expect or want any one customer to drop thousands at a time into them.

I am not sure how much the machines with hold.. I know they don't have bags.. I once dumped 1500 with no problem whatsoever..

If you use your personal bank as the dump bank cant they just deposit the coins into your account and throw the box in their vault? That is what they do at my bank (as long as they are rolled), although I only ever bought around $100 dollars worth of halves at a time, so maybe that's the kicker?

They can, but the whole point of the counter was to save me time from re-rolling.. These machines were quick and could process 1000 in halves in 2 minutes.. Also when you have a slip in hand showing that the money is perfectly counted, it becomes much easier to get cash in hand.. From my experiences, tellers become very suspicious if you re roll so much, simply because if the rolls are off by a few coins, they are the ones that get the blame.. Obviously this isn't much of a problem when you build up a relationship with the bank, but these branches and the dump/pickup run are new so It won't be easy.. this just made my hunting that much harder.. I had a complete pickup run organized around these dump banks too, so now I am forced to adapt and switch it up... Oh well..

You'll figure something out, if they take rerolls, and you have to do it that way for a while, at least you can still hunt and get your money back fast, I reroll every now and to get some qwik cash myself, the bags ( if you can wait a couple of days for credit) are a great allternative too.
