I have had a detector i bought at radio shack about 3 years ago, its the discovery2000. it seems to work fine. I have found lots of nails, pop tabs and some coins with it! Is this a pretty good detector? and also, i am soooo embarassed to ask, what does auto notch and disc mean? we bought it, put it up, and only just recently started using it again. I get what info i can reading posts, and i feel so stupid asking such goofy questions. until i find my little owners booklet, any help is appreciated!

The catalog No. is 63-3007, now that might be the radio shack number. It was made by Bounty Hunter for radio Shack. You could look at the bounty hunter site, I think they call it a Land star. You could get it from them. I own one. Auto Notch: it gives a low tone when it detects nickels and small gold objects, ignores most junk, High tone for copper, silver and brass. Disc touch pad it well display an indicator when it detects many types of metal, it well ignore the general type you specify by adjusting DISC/NOTCH Knob. Most of this is straight from the manual. I mainly ran mine on by pressing the Disc pad, and turning the Disc/notch clock wise very little. Got a gold coin with one. They work really well. Pete

tracey....
I have the discovery 2000 also. (XLT on the way) ....had to add that. Anyways, I lost my manual as well and looked at all the current Bounty Hunter Detectors since they make the RS ones and found that the The Lone Star is just about if not the same as the Discovery. Check out Bounty Hunter's web site and you can download the manual for it. Hope this helps.....Wolf.

thank you for the input. i appreciate it! i feel pretty good that i have what seems to be a decent detector! i will try what you recommended.
