So I get my AT Pro yesterday and I'm amped to go out and give it a shot. I have never ever MD in my life. After lurking in here for a while I decide to pull the trigger and get one.

Off the the beach which is only 5 minutes away. I wear my camo BDU's with my ranger hat and off I go. On the way there I realize, I need something to dig with? Ok, quick stop at home depot and buy a .99 4" diggin tool ( so I thought) and go on. Once there, I proudly pull my MD and off I go. Within the first minute I get a hit about 8" deep. I get on my knees and begin the dig. After couple of strokes I quickly get that palm fatigue and I realize I can barely get 4" despite my best efforts. To get 8" I'm really gonna have to put in some muscle.

I swear, I dug and dug and couldn't find anything. I quickly realized that my pinpointing skills were lacking heavily. So I decided to plant my own coins and get this pinpointing down packed. After about 1 hour I felt confident enough to give it another go. I get a signal, I dig and out comes a wheatie (my first find ever), I put it in my bdu side pocket and I keep it moving. I pulled a couple of pull tabs and a 1962 lincoln nickel. After about 2 hours my Bicep was killing me and my hand was in so much pain that I skipped everything with a reading of 4" or deeper which was about everything.

Coming to terms of how unprepared I was, I decided to call it quits. As soon as I get home I reach in my BDU pocket and the only thing left was my pull tabs and nickel. My WHEATIE was gone!!!! I had a small rip on the edge of the pocket big enough to fit the penny. I'm so bummed :-[

Well, lesson learned. I will never go out again without the proper diggin tools and a proper place to stash my goods. I still can't believe I lost my first find......

Time's a good healer. You never forget, but it does get easier :'(

That's nothing. Wait til you rush off to the beach only to discover that you forgot your detector, or that you forgot to put batteries in it. Laugh now, but sooner or later it will happen. :laughing7:

If you are hunting the beach you need to get a sand scoop it will be a lot easyer for you......Matt

LOL, I really hope that never happens. Especially leaving my MD behind.

I realize that now, I also have to get bigger bicep muscles.

I second that sand scoop!! Also maybe a good pinpointer? I finally got one after digging up holes three feet wide only to find out the my target was not in that spot. The pinpointer saved me alot of time and a good sand scoop will save you time also. One last thing. When I first started out on the beach my arm was KILLING me and someone on here recommended getting a harness. It will cost you all of twenty bucks but you arm will thank you a million times for buying it!! You can get it at Kellyco just click on the top link on the page!
Hope this helps and happy hunting!!!
