I picked up some loose halves and some rolls today. Still have eight rolls to search, but from the loose stuff, I found a 1966. I put it in my pocket and went to two more banks. I lost it. Must have dropped out when I reached in for some cash. How do you lose a half dollar at a bank? :dontknow:
I'm only out 50 cents, but it feels like I lost a $5 bill.

On a brighter note, one of the teller's offered up a 1934 $20 Bill. Has some wrinkles, but looks pretty good.

Make sure it didn't drop into your wallet, that's happened to me a few times.

Not to lecture but this is a good lesson in that it was only 1 keeper. You need to have a system of what you do with keepers that you follow every time so they don't get lost or dumped. I learned this from experience early on. One time early in my CRHing career I had a few 40%ers that I found in a box I was searching. I really didn't have a set system of what I did with keepers, so they were kind of lying around near where I was searching. Somehow when I was cleaning up the mess after my CRHing session, you know all the little pieces of wrappers and stray loose clads that missed the dump box, I somehow threw my 40%ers in with the dump halves. I didn't catch this because I hurried to the bank to dump the rejects so I could get my search funds back ASAP.

After I got home from the bank I looked for my 40%ers and they were nowhere to be found. There were no other halves of any kind in my search area so I know they went in with the dumps. Since then I established set rules for handling finds both at home and on the road.

Jim

Jim, I usually only check loose coins right away. I always check rolls at home. And I put silvers in my pocket. I wonder how often I lose coins. I think it must have gotten into the fold of cash and rolled out onto a carpet. I didn't hear anything hit the floor or counter top.
Mountainman, I can't remember the last time I had ANY money in my wallet, and the half couldn't jump from front left pocket to right rear pocket....but what the heck, I'll check anyway. :D

Hope that half turns up for you.
That note is a piece of history. If it could talk it would tell stories of hard times and sacrifice. $20 in those days was REAL money. My grand mother raised her family in the Depression and never wasted a single thing in her life, it seared frugality into her mind and soul.
Nice teller, to pass it on to you.
Best wishes,
Steve

Steve, the teller was going to keep it for her son, but changed her mind I guess. She said an old lady brought it in. With the economy still in the tank, old folks are dipping into their hide-a-way money.
I almost scored an old $50 at another bank too. I saw it in the draw and asked if she had any old bills. She reached for the draw, opened it half way, closed it and said, "oh, no, nothing like that". Lying Beach.

I had the opposite luck, I was visiting some people in the Northeast today and stopped by a bank to ask for halfs, they said someone had cleared them out, as I was walking out though I spotted something on the floor and found a 66 Kennedy! What luck!

Funny...Real funny. >:( ;D

I hope a kid found it.
