Learned that long before American Pickers. Only I do that for a different reason. When I find a few things I like I pile them up and head to the exit.
In my mind I know what I want to offer, so what do i do? I ad 1 or 2 more things to my pile. Why? you might ask. These are what I call my "put backs" I make my offer and if the seller thinks my offer is to low (and it probably is) I say what if I put these back will you accept my offer?
Well last saturday I added a small vintage coin bank labeled 50¢ to the top of my pile of scrap copper and a beat up scrabble game. When I picked up the bank it rattled with a few coins inside. The lady accepted my offer so I didn't have to put back the bank. Later I started shaking the bank and out popped 4 coins. Two cents and two dimes. ONE DIME WAS SILVER (value $1.40) and looked up the bank on feeBay. Simular ones go for $19 to $29 I could not find an identical match when I looked for a pic. Many were the same bank but with different art on the front.
