I know what it is but...

Is it genuinely from the AD1500-AD1700 period? I've little doubt that it's bronze, it's just the age that I'm scratching my head over. It's in really good condition considering it could be 500 years old. From my knowledge of this period, pewter would be a more appropriate medium if this was intended to be used as tableware.

It's very heavy for it's size and weighs 125.70g. It measures 110mm. There are no makers marks that I can find, I've been over it with a loupe.

My thoughts on this is that it's quite a sophisticated make for something so simple. It has three little feet underneath and if you look closely, there are three perfectly circular depressions, one between each foot. You can just about see one of them on the second and fourth photos. I've never seen these depressions on such an old dish before. I'm no expert though and I attach photos.

I bought it from ebay for 1 penny as I was curious and like a challenge. I've found absolutely nothing about it online, nothing similar on an image search, nothing about who would have used it etc. My guess is that it's mid 20th century and made to look older. If that's the case I'm going to take it back to it's original finish and use it as a pin tray or something. I adore bronze!

Thank you for your reply! You've confirmed my thoughts about the age, I agree with you to it probably being a product of the 1980's - although it's far too small to be a charger, 110 mm is equivalent to only 4.33 inches. Brass - yes, you could well be right. I'm not bothered either way to be honest, I can't moan about a penny :) I can however leave feedback for other buyers, he guarantees his 'artifacts' as 'guaranteed genuine' and runs them past his 'expert'. Maybe I'll helpfully suggest he finds a new expert whilst I'm at it - I'm kind like that!
