My friend at the corner store showed me this 1977A One dollar bill, I looked it up by the serial number and it appears to have been printed or put into circulation around Jan 1980, soooo not sure how a 1977A series gets done int 1980, but that's what the list showed..
So know on to my question, what one cause the back to turn a bleach out yellow color but not the front?? If some one bleaches/washes their cash in the washer, would not both front and back be bleached?

BTW! am sooooooo jealous of my friend at the corner store, he gets the best looking and most awesome coins. The ones its takes us for ever to find MD'ing or even in pocket change....pffft! but I love getting to share info with him..

thanks

The date on paper money doesn't mean when it was made. The date on paper money shows when that design was first introduced. A lot of times the only change in the design are the signatures because some new person took office as treasurer or secretary of treasurer. When you see a date on paper money that has a letter "A" or "B" after it that means there was two or three different designs in that year. I've never seen one cuz I'm fairly young but I would have to guess there may have even been bills with a letter "C" or maybe even a "D". This is the reason that your 1977A bill was made in 1980. In the year 2006, 2003A bills were still being made. If memory serves me right there was a change in 2006 so I would suspect a person should start seeing bills with a date of 2006. I'm only talking about one dolar bills because as you know there has been many design changes to higher denomination bills in the last couple years. I live in rural Iowa but maybe some people in big cities have already found 2006 bills. As for the color that does seem kinda strange but I dont really know what to think. Hope this helps

HEY! are you implying that I'm old? hehe....any way thank you for the info, I did not know that the letter's by the date means that there are diffrent designs. So yes that does help, now I need to find out why it would be diffrent colors. I do not care for the new colored money, look like play money. At one of the corner stores around here, the clerk thought a $20.00 was fake because she did not recognize the design. I was like its real, I grew up with that design. Of course she is fairly young herself (not that I'm ancient or anything ;D). Paper money collecting does not seem as interesting as coins do. But the guy who has the dollar does come up with some interesting coins and cash. Tried to buy them from him cause he says hes not really doing any thing with them, but man he wont let go of any. He puts them in a bag and just leaves them there.. ???

Thanks

I've been trying to get a guy at a local bank to hold stuff for me. If he finds anything really strange he saves it for me but he wont really take the time to look through stuff. The only thing he has saved for me was a silver quarter and a steel wheat cent.

HEHE! I have been hitting up a couple banks here to. Happen to get two Silver Half Dollars from one, the lady had been saving them for another, but was nice and sold them to me (face value), gave one to my friend who owns the corner store and kept one. Went to exchange some coins for new ones to go through and gabbed that dang thing and exchanged it to..grrrrr...now have diffrent storage for coins I want to exchange...kicking ones own butt is very hard to do!

Headed to bank today to do some trading ;) and dad is bring his coins tonight for me to see....So will have some thing to do tonight ::)

Manmy states require that bartenders wipe down the bar with a bleach soaked rag when a drink spills. As a note is dragged through the bleach the green ink turns orange yellow like that. Those are well knownm and classified as damge after printing. Neat to look at but no value. siegfried schlagrule

AHH! I should have guessed that...Did some bar tending for a friend of mine..and we used bleach soaked towels all the time. Thank you... ;D
