CIMG0074.jpgCIMG0076 (2).jpgCIMG0077 (2).jpgCIMG0074.jpgCIMG0076 (2).jpgCIMG0077 (2).jpg i found a place near houston where theres alot of these cannon balls and grape shots are scattered

lets go !!!

the way they are scattered and how deep tells me they are not mill balls and they are crudely made with want appears to be cut up chains.Truckinbutch i also am a trucker the balls i find is in a drop yard that was freshly made and scattered in the dirt yard. They are not all together but all over like a battle zone .The drop yard is a few miles from the Sam Houston statue.Theres still alot there i just got tired of digging them up The student and i got enough to show and the history of the twin sisters and the battle is in at least interesting

Can I come play?

50 cents i can tell you more but i dont want to give addresses or phone numbers over the internet do you by any chance know the difference between mill balls and cannon balls how can i contact you and are you in the houston area cause i would like to know what i found

i know a place over by tomball you can find them also, some people say it was the an old munitions sight. and another place that was a confirmed munition factory out by anderson. there is alot of history here on the north side of houston and the way things are booming, they will all soon be built over, but for now they are opening up some good hunting.

No dawg, I'm not near houston. I wanted to look at the area on a map, I thought they were cannonballs my mistake. I just like seeing cannonball GPS coordinates, because most of the time, they look like they are from a pretty intense western scene in a movie. ie, usually a desert valley, covered by a bridge. Some nice scenery. no worries, bones, I understand you don't want to display the GPS co-ordinates publicly.

Not to get too technical (and I am not a cannon expert) but it is my understanding grape shot isn't often found on land. Grape was generally used on board ships. On land, relic hunters find canister.

The cut-up chains and other scrap could have been "langrage" if this was, indeed, a battlefield.

Good luck to all,

cannon balls are not high carbon steel.

they are iron or soft steel.

there are a number of home test you can do to tell if you have ball mill balls or cannon balls.

One is the spark test.(do not do if the ball looks like it has a fuse in it.)
Spark testing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hardness test. and drill test.
Its very hard to if not imposable to drill into a modern ball mill ball.

i worked in the mining industry and also play with black powder cannons.

i have fired many ball mill balls down range.
