I know I've seen this before.

If memory serves this was a symbol for something. But, I just can't recall. Unless, of course, I am just working against my senility. ;)

Anyway, this tiny piece. Earring or pendant of some sort rings a bell with me. Just can't place.

The metal body is non-magnetic. It seems very old to me and yes, I dug it up just like it is, globe and all. But, the globe is loose enough
to just fall off. The ball is perfectly clear and flattened off on the bottom. You can see how small it is by the ruler.

I dunno, maybe someone will recognize it or be able to tell by the setting, or the way it's made.

Any help placing how old or if it is a symbol of something will help greatly.

This is how it came out of the ground.

Hopefully, 1 or two of the pics will help.

Looks sort of like a Chicken claw holding a clear ball which is supposed to be good luck. These were sold at a lot of places as pendants or trinkets. I have one that is sterling, but some are junk metal.

These are often referred as 'Pools of Light' jewelry. I think they came mostly from Japan or China?. Some vintage pieces can bring a very good price. It should be a clear natural rock crystal. Pools of Light Crystal: Jewelry & Watches | eBay yours could be the kind one would add a small portrait in behind the flat part of the mounting?

I do believe you have something there, Tamrock!

You can see that the sphere does indeed act as a magnifier.

A good one too! Look at that date!

I cleaned up a bit more of the piece and to me this looks like a lot of work went into the design. (may just be tired eyes too)

Here's a few more angles and close ups. Anyone see what the design is supposed to be? Age?

Thanks!

They sell them in the swap meets. imported from China. The ball would've had a foil coating on the back like glass in costume jewelry. The piece is made from a base metal close to pewter. The ones I've seen had a plating that wasn't gold. Kinda cool you found it & the glass ball too!

Nice ID tamrock!

I can't tell from the pics if it looks like a chicken's foot or not. All of the chicken claws jewelry I've seen had the actual 'claws.' Yours looks more like 4 flat top prongs.

Since it is so small, I think it is/was a charm instead of a pendant.

As far as seeing something like this on TNet, you may be thinking about this post:

Neat find :)

Hi Breezie,

Yeah, after looking closer, those four posts were never meant to be a setting per se, at least, not to hold anything fast. They are just design. You can see the piece better in the pics I post on the reply to tamrock. I believe that's pretty much on track. But, this one just seems old to me.

Thanks!

I believe Tamrock has this one pegged. I can see it's probably a "Pool of Light" piece of some sort. However old.

Thanks for all the help!
