I know it's a scabbard drag, but......

I found this sword scabbard drag while detecting at Fort Steilacoom(1848-1868). Because I found many 3 ringers in the same area, I believe where I was detecting was the fort's target range. As the pictures show, it is made of thick brass, with much of its gold guilting still intact. On one side is a star, on the other is crossed flags. Though I have searched dozens of military artifact books, I have not found one that even remotely comes close to the beautiful designs of this one. Any information would be appreciated.

Nice find there :icon_thumleft:, I had a quick look around the net but the only one that I could find that was similar was this:-

"Model 1860 Staff Officer's Sword - Maker marked Ridabock & Co New York, circa 1880."

http://www.civilwarantiqueshop.com/sw58.htm

The scabbard drag has a star on one side and a flag and shield on the other.
I hope you get a full id soon :icon_thumleft:.

Re: I know it's a scabbard drag, but......

Hey, Hammered. Thanks for the download. Though not a match, that is the closest to what I've seen by a long shot. It does tell me it was most likely an officer's sword scabbard drag. I don't think it was from a one star general. I found no records of any visits of generals to Fort Steilacoom. Though we did have some famous future generals, such as McClellan, Picket and Grant, none were above the rank of captain at the time.....Anyway, thank you
