Found this bell at a a farm house which dates to the mid 1800's. I don't know much about bell history and my research online hasn't realy given me any insight into it other then it seems to be a "teacher" bell type. The ones I've seen in
research have wooden handles though. Most interesting is what appears to be Personal in in graving done on the inside of the bell. Was done in small dots. I can clearly see what looks like a first initial and last name and the number 85. Not sure if the 85 would refer to 1985 or maybe 1885. Any thoughts on this find would be greatly appreciated.

I see what your saying bot there's still what looks like a first initial J and a letter right before what looks like India so I'm not sure. Would really like to have an idea of how old is. Thanks for the input I appreciate it

That does look pretty close doesn't it. I'd say at this point it's safe to say the age would be 1900's not earlier. Thanks for everyone's input

I found one simular but with shorter handle with India on the inside from a house torn down. It was from early 1900's. Looked online but not much to find from India.

I found a similar one and you can view other examples if you search for "sarna bells" I believe

Curious rick, was the "India" inside the bell you found etched with crude small dots as with the one I found?

I know I'm not Rick, but mine definitely did.
No it was chiseled like the outside. No numbers, no additional lettering. Just India. Maybe it's the Bell makers' preference to use an All or Chisel, to date and sign, or not.

I don't know it's origin or it's maker, but....I do know it is a beautiful bell. Looks like some really nice craftsmanship on the engraving. I would be very thrilled to find it for at least it's aesthetic value.
