I was detecting the same place I found the Civil War Breast Plate, Crotal Bell ect and came across this old hatchet. To me it feels old and was deep and was found in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. Any Idea on this style of hatchet as to what century it would be from? House 1700's to current.

I think the best bet would be to give a good scrubbing' and look for markings, as you're right about hard to put a date on them. To your question of style of hatchet, Stanley called theirs a "half hatchet", basically a carpenters hatchet: Stanley Axes

It looks like a roofing ax to me, could be old or modernish. Clean it up and see if it is marked, otherwise all you can do is use the finds from the area to make a judgment. Here's a couple that I found:
