I found this tiny button looking thing in a drained lake bed last fall. This thing has me stumped because I believe it's made from stone and its very crude. Could this possibly be a bead?

Its different that's for sure. So its not metal?

Thanks for the response rock. It's not metal or magnetic. It's a head scratcher. The rust color on it is what the soil and rocks in the lake bed are like.

I'm guessing it may be made out of horn or bone. I have seen several hand made ones. Is it light in weight? Nice find.

Thank you. It's very hard and dense I tapped it against a marble counter. So I don't think it's bone or horn.

Have you put it in the What forum yet? I don't think it is NA probably more like Historic.

I did put it in the what is it forum when I first found it. It wasn't taken seriously and they thought it was a salt shaker top lol. I doubt it's na too I don't know how any one would be able to drill those fine holes into it.

Have you run a metal detector over it? many metals are not magnetic I'm just checking.

It sure looks like a button & is the right size. Could it be made from some kind of clay/stone mixture maybe?
