and I think I should take it back.

I looked at the half prices and many uncirculated halves are listed at less than the silver melt value of the junk coins I have found.

Doesn't the coins value take into consideration of the price of silver?

Is there a website that is more up to date than a 2007 Blackbook?

There are numismatists, and there are precious metal (bullion) investors. Sometimes the lines bleed into each other and sometimes they don't.

I'm guessing the Blackbook, like Yeoman's Redbook, is quoting prices numismatically. The daily spot prices of the metal in question will tell you the precious metal (bullion) investor value of a coin.

I understand what you are saying, but there is no way I can walk into a coin store and buy uncirculated halves and turn around and sell to a refiner for a small profit each.

I am sure the coin store will adjust their prices to reflect the silver market.

Somewhere in the book you may find a statement like "The prices are based on a spot price of xxx per ounce" its usually followed by a chart indicating various spot prices , which you can adjust accordingly. Usually, junk silver coins are worth their silver value only.

Isn't the blackbook a guide for what a dealer should pay for coins? Then the redbook is a guide for prices based on what the retail price should be. So, pay what the blackbook states and then sell at the price listed in the redbook.

I think your thinking of the blue book. The redbook is what i usually use, it tells collecter value of coins and in the back tels there bulion value. The blue book does the same thing but the prices are what dealers should pay. Basically buy based on blue book and sell based on red book. :) I dont have a black book or a white book but i have seen them and they look pretty good to me.

You really need to get to know the values yourself,... everywhere you go...
