The first site that I went to has been hit super hard by me on several occasions, it's located on a corner lot at a very busy intersection. Lance and I hit it a short while back with no success. The 1964 Washington quarter was only 4 inches deep. I checked around the hole with the pinpoint and located some iron next to where I dug the quarter. That must have been masking it some, because I was getting a funky audio response and some real jumpy ID numbers.
The next good target that I got at that site was a 1936 Buffalo Nickel. It was next to a sidewalk and was around 6 inches or so deep. The CTX hit it hard. As many times as I've been down through there I don't know how I missed that nickel. Anyway, I also found one wheat penny, 3 keys in one hole and a single clad dime before leaving for another site to detect. That site is nearly devoid of any targets, good or bad.
On my way to the second site that I've hit a couple of times before, I stopped along the way to detect a short stretch of grassy area along a curb line. I didn't find any silver, but I did find some old wheat pennies and a few clad coins. There could have been silver there since I was finding wheat pennies. Not this time though.
At the second site that I've hunted before, if it weren't for the threshold hum I would have had to keep checking to see if the detector was turn on, because there weren't hardly any targets. I finally got a deep high audio tone and some ID numbers that led me to believe I was over a deep wheat penny. I dug down around 8+ inches and found a thin 1916 Mercury Dime. Heck no it didn't have a 'd' on it. Other than that one silver dime and one wheat penny, I didn't dig another target at that site.
I'm finding stuff with CTX, but I really need to learn how to use it better. Right now I'm just winging it. Any advice, tips, recommended settings, or hot progams would be welcome. I'm finding nails and trash in the holes with good targets, so I must doing something right.
