If it is lead, I would say it could be a "sounding line/lead line" weight, used for determining the depth of water in boating/shipping before the invent of depth finders.

That being said, most sounding weights were 7lbs. and usually rounded on the bottom, not pointed like your piece, what is the weight of your piece?

that piece not brazing stock.go to a local paint store and get a lead testing pen.gotta know what its made out of....means everything.good luck,I keep watchin as others will too.

The copper piece is a soldering iron.Someone ask if they used lead for soldering Yes they used lead pipe years ago and lead to solder it with......Osage

If it not lead; the dimensions are right for a front blade style sight for a black powder cannon.

i agree , it looks like a old plumb bob to me,,, very handy tool in building back in the days before levels were created , and even now i see road crews using them to put light poles up.

here is 1 i found on ebay,, its iron but why couldnt some one make one out of lead.
