I have read over 20 old threads and still can't decide on which new coil ?

I am going back and forth between the 5.3 eclipse the 4x6 DD Shooter and possibly the 6X8 DD for my MXT Pro. I currently have the 12" stock coil and it is driving me crazy in the places I hunt such as old homesites. I was originally planning on getting the 5.3 coil but now I am double guessing myself.
If I switch to prospecting mode the ground usually reads in the high 50's . From what I understand the 5.3 gets better depth than the 4x6 but the DD gets better seperation. I know this question has been asked many many times but here I go asking it again. Any suggestions ?
Is the 5.3 pretty close to the 4X6 when it comes to seperation and getting results in trashy sites ?

Thanks

If you want the coil for working in high trash locations, you want SMALL. So that puts it between the 5.3 and the 4x6. The 5.3 is a concentric design and is SLIGHTLY deeper, but it detects over the whole area, tapering down like a cone. The detection zone gets progressively smaller the farther away from the coil.

The 4x6 is a "DD" design and it's main detection zone is right down the middle. It's not quite as deep as a concentric but you get the full 6 inch length of detection response all the way down. Because it doesn't see under the entire coil like a concentric, it's even better at separating dense trash, and working in higher mineralized soils.

Those are the facts behind my recommendation for the 4x6!

I have used the 5.3 and it is a great coil but somewhat limited to trashy areas and shallower targets, never used the 4x6, but have and used the 6x10 which I feel is the best coil for any whites product. I use have used both a MXT and DFX with the 6x10 and it just is hard to beat. You get better coverage, little more depth and target seperation, all in one coil. I have also used the 10x14 and love it in open areas without trash but the big draw back was the overall weight. I could only swing in a couple of hours and had to quit. I would recommend the 6x10 as being a good all around coil. Just my 2 scents worth!!!!! Good luck and happy hunting.

My go to coils on both the MXT & V3i are the D2 & 4x6 shooter. I have never used the 5.3 and have heard that you can get a little more depth however with the 4x6 I did recover an old 1/2 penny Canadian token from about 7-8 inches down in an foundry area which needless to say is about as trashy as they come. I would like to see Whites make an 8" round DD coil, I would buy one in a heartbeat if they did.

I have both. I like the 4x6 better. Both have the same depth, the 4x6 separates better and I like pinpointing with DD coils.
That being said, the 5.3 is a good coil too. You really can't go wrong with either.

The MXT paired with the D2 coil is what I use 90% of the time but for very heavy trash the 4x6 is great, I just don't like to detect real trashy area's all the time. HH

hands down 6x8DD,and the 4x for trashy sites

I have used a 4X6 on a Prizm 6T that I had and it was a killer in trash. I have the 5.3 currently on my Eagle Spectrum and it is good in trash but not as good as the 4X6 IMHO. When I get my DFX out of layaway it will be with a 4X6 Shooter. I found several silver coins in a trashy park that were merely being masked by the junk but the 4X6 was able to weed out the junk and give a nice diggable signal.

This is JMO, in high nail concentration you need a concentric coil and the 5.3 is a good choice. Also in some cases the 5 inch coil is the ticket. Let me say this, I don't use a MXT, I use the little brother the M6. I have used the 4x6 on the 6t and on a M6( limited use), to me the 4x6 on the 6t seemed to be much hotter than on the M6. I use only the 5.3 and the 950 for my hunting, but will probably will add the 6x10 later on for weight advantages on sports fields. Man I love those soccer fields.

Jason explains it very well and I can't argue with a single thing he says. But for the cellar hole hunting a prefer the 5.3 over the 4X6 just to get that little bit extra depth. Because those coils are so small, I will give up a bit of separation for a bit of depth. Just my preference.
