I dug this at a 1940s-50's dump today, and held on to it because it looks interesting. It is heavy for its size, and looks to be made of brass. I would appreciate any help I could get.

When it turns, it would open the top razor part in order to install or remove the razor blade.

Yup! A razor handle. I have the complete set: handle, head, and razor box, in a leather-wrapped metal tin.

Thanks for the info thats pretty interesting. It would make sense too because I find lots of razor and shaving related bottles and relics at the dump. I found a gilette case yesterday for a razor.
