Found this today,the thicker end looks like brass and is non-magnetic.The long skinny rod like end is all corroded over and is magnetic.

Fireplace Poker is the first thing that comes to mind.

size might help...for now looks like a lamp top keeper

I agree if the brass part is only 1" or 2 long then that would be a very small fireplace poker.

The brass part end is about 4" long and the long rod end 8" long,
The top end of a lamp would make sense as a decorative piece.I first thought a ice pick for a bucket of ice sitting at the bar?

Yup, finial for hanging light. We had repros of this in cast brass in our shop (victorian lighting store and manufacture)

It's a nice cast finial. You can make what ever you want out of it, even a nice ice pick! lol
