Not much to go on.

Can you give us some info on where it was found and what type of metal it is?

Do you have a pic showing it all in one piece? Part of it is missing in each photo and I can't see how they fit together. Monty

fold down type trigger and part of frame for a old style pocket pistol---( the trigger folded forward for safety while you carried it in your coat pocket (hince the term "pocket pistol" --post civil war era say 1870 to early 1900's small caliber pistols for the most part) --- to use the trigger you flipped it downward in place and then squeezed it backward to fire the weapon .( they were the saturday night special of the times)

I dont what I can add??The site it was found has been occupied since the 1870's,musket parts along with a powder flask was found there. The item is brass, the mark near the "Patent" appears to be just a "scar",and the pics are of the COMPLETE item. The part that is possibly the trigger guard is hinged, and the there is a part on the one end that is bent over and appears to possibly hold a barrel? Thanks for trying guys!!This one has had me stumped for awhile!!!

To me it looks like some sort of picker upper, when the grip is compressed do the end parts move together ?if they were free to work ? used to pick up a coal from fire to light pipe or something. Bob

If it's a gun I think it's a toy gun. Look at the split seam down the length of the area that holds what looks like part of a trigger guard. No real gun would be made like that. It wouldn't hold together on firing. Monty
