I have found log dogs before, but.........

These things are huge. They are just over 4 foot long. These came from an area that had both mining and logging operations in the past. I have found smaller ones that were used to hold logs down for hewing, but I doubt very much these were used for that purpose.

If you're into digging old logging artifacts and ever in Virginia near Fredericksburg let me know and I can take you to a spot were there is 1940-1970 logging artifacts laying around like a junk yard. Looks like the loggers just up and left everything behind.

Thanks HutSiteDigger, but they are too modern. I'm after the oxen, horse logging era artifacts of the late 1800's, early 1900's. I guess I should have added, does anyone know what these would have been used for.
