I have a Fisher ID Excel on the way to me...

Does anyone here still use one,used to own/use one? Any comments,good or bad ? This will be my first MD and I am STOKED to get out and get to swingin it!!
Friend that gave it to me has paid for a TON of mining equipment with it so,I'm sure it "works".
Thanks in advance for any reviews y'all can give me,I appreciate it..

You have a good detector. I have the ID Edge, the two are the same except the Edge has a few more bells and whistles. Both have 4 tones and go deep. To ground balance: Place coil on ground, press and hold AUTO button for about 5 seconds then raise coil 6" and release button. You will hear one beep telling you it is ground balanced. Be sure there is no buried metal where you ground balance. Set DISC at minus 20 or more so that you can hear at least some of the buried iron nails. I set mine at minus 33, I want to hear all the buried iron because its good to know what junk is in the ground. Do a lot of air testing, lay some coins, etc on top of a cardboard box and swing the coil over the items. Set SENSITVITY at about 7 to start with. Any detector will pick up electrical noise when turned on in the house. Have detector in Target ID mode, not ALL METAL MODE and bury some coins in the ground 3-6 inches deep and swing the coil over it, first be sure there is no buried nails there. Go to Home Depot and get a narrow garden digging hand tool, not a wide trowel, too hard to stick in the soil. To PINPOINT a buried target make an X with coil movement, target will be in the center of the X. Again Good Detector. Will run on 1 or 2 nine volt batteries. Not all detectors work good in wet salt sand. Dave

Thank you for your reply Dave,I do appreciate it.
I have a PDF copy of the manual and have read it over at least 75 times. I have printed it out and will keep it with me,if their is no manufacturers manual included with the machine.
My friend has used it for a few years and purchased dredges,sluses,pumps,pans, hi dollar detectors and all manner of equipment using the Excel,he actually used it,for the last time Tuesday, to find an elect. junction box,before shipping it to me.
I trust he found it too...
