I know ya'll get tired of being asked for help IDing buttons but I can't find a button exactly like mine.
First, mine reads "D. Evans & Co. Attleboro Falls". Every button I have found online and on TNet reads "Attleboro Mass".
I did find that D. Evans & Co. manufactured buttons for The Robinson Co. in Attleboro, MA from 1848-1945. Well that's a big time range and no buttons for manufacture date reference.
Second, I believe this is a Great Seal button. Who and what military branch wore it?

Thanks for looking and any help is greatly appreciated.

The "Great Seal" button is the U.S. Army general service button, and since 1902 has been worn by all enlisted men and officers except those of the Corps of Engineers.

D. Evans & Co. used the "Attleboro Falls" backmark on their black-finished general service buttons from 1918 to 1940.

Thanks so much for the quick and informative reply PBK. Does the marking of Falls instead of Mass give it a significant date?
What books/links do you use for IDing buttons?
Thanks again, Lisa

Glad I could help, Lisa! :)

I don't know of any information that would narrow the date range any further than 1918-40, but perhaps someone else here at TNet will have the answer.

Probably the single best book for identifying military buttons is Record of American Uniform Buttons by Alphaeus H. Albert.

Uniform Butons of the United States, 1776-1865 by Warren K. Tice is also very good.

For button backmarks and dates, I would recommend either (or both!) of the following:

Dating Buttons
by Warren K. Tice

American Military Button Makers and Dealers; Their Backmarks & Dates
by William F. McGuinn and Bruce S. Bazelon
