I Had to haul big iron out of the woods to keep the ticks from carrying me away.

Got a permission to do a foundation and an 80 acre parcel through a friend at work ! It is an hour north west of me but I was looking for a new site and had Monday afternoon to myself so I made the trip. It is a very pretty drive up to The Sebago lake region so The drive was not bothersome !The site was established in the early 1800's but I could not pin down a date ! Burned in the late 1940's and never inhabited since. The foundation site was quite overgrown with brush but with swinging breaks here and there . I hunted around the foundation for about 40 minitues and turned up the regulars. I.E. gun brass , harmonica reed , A bell that cleaned up nicely and a few other do dads . I then felt something crawling on my belly and looked and saw a tick on me . I decided I better check myself some more so I went back to the truck striped down and took 5 more ticks off myself , I was not going back to that brushy area and decided to drive the old road to the back of the property . I found an old portible saw mill that was abandoned out back just off the road . Carried a couple pieces of what I considered keeper iron back to the truck . Found two more ticks on me so my hunt was done ! I am not going near that site till after a freeze or two in the fall ! Thanks for looking and happy treasure hunting ! MaineRelic

Nice bell. I bought permethrin impregnated pants and a shirt from LL Bean and so far seem to be working very well.

All spring I have been hunting fields and forests all spring and had not yet picked up a single tick . From this one site in under two hours I found 9 ticks on myself ! Only had one that had managed to attatch and he was easily removed . I am going to look up that bug suit from Beans though ! Thanks for the tip ! MaineRelic

I've been pretty lucky with ticks.

Did get bit by a Black Widow Spider though.

Found the coolest set of stone ruins (1750's) within spitting distance of a highway offramp. Got bit within 20 minutes of getting there. Didn't get much hunting in. (going back when the first frost hits).

I feel your pain, not from the ticks but from the hauling out of the woods bit:laughing7:I lugged a 85 pound feldspar crystal out once, what fun that was:laughing9:

Yeah, here in the South we're pretty much done for year (if you're smart). Ticks in droves here and the poisonous snakes are easy to find.

I like the bell! Nice hunt and the ticks are bad here in MI as well, the hateful things. HH

Here is the thing about Permethrin. Once you wash your clothing 4 or 5 times it has lost it strength. So buying an outfit from LL Bean or anywhere isn't a good investment. You can go to Wal-Mart and buy a spray bottle of Permethrin that has enough to spray two complete outfits consisting of pants, shirt, and socks. You spray it on and let it dry (about 2 hours) and you're good to go. Might look funny, but if you tuck your pants into your socks and put a strip of duct tape around them you will be VERY WELL protected from ticks. Also when you wash your clothing hang it and let it air dry which helps the Permethrin last just a tad longer. With the new untreatable viruses the ticks are carrying now it's not worth risking it without adequate protection such as Permethrin.

Amen.... and a few miles north of you in Middle TN. nothing changes!!!!!

Love the bell! Crummy ticks! Here they're in the woods and mountains but not in city parks, glad. Hope you guys find some good lake beaches to detect tick-free! Andi
