The recent posts this week WOW,a crap load of dimes, enough half dollars that would pull your pants down, the house full of exciting rare things...PRICELESS!!!.congratulations on everyones discoveries.

My dilemma: As i sit hear reading I'm acquiring a wealth of knowledge that i would never of had otherwise if it weren't for this forum,i definitely have the md'ing fever so bad my meals are starting too taste metallic,i have dreams of great treasure hunting adventures where i find so many things i haven't enough hands to collect it all,i mean i got this fever and i got it bad.

So my questions are: Have any of you been in my position where you have this same kind of helpless sickness? not being able to successfully search because you have no detector.. yet have that overwhelming urge to just go out and wander around hoping to stumble upon anything?...I'm not really sure how long its gonna be before i can get a MD,any suggestions to what i can do in the meantime besides research and adding to my mental data base?

I absolutely love this forum,i can't even go a day without stopping here at Tnet to salivate over everyones finds, its astonishing the stuff people discover and know here as am i enjoying my time getting to know everyone here and that in itself is priceless.I am just going stir crazy not being able to share with you all,if any of you have any ideas that may help me from going insane before i can get a detector I'd appreciate it. ;D

Thanks,UnEarthed72

When I was a kid,I would go "exploring" in the woods around my house. I wish I was in those woods today with my detector! Ahh,the possibilities.

This isn't so bad. Wait till you get the detector and have to go to work to learn they expect you do do a job instead of visiting TNet during working hours.

Don't settle on a cheap detector like they sell in the big box stores. Visit tcmetaldetectors.com Tony has good prices.

I live in Chittenango, so you are right above me lol. AND it just so happens I am looking for someone to hunt with (I dont like to hunt alone all the time)
email me and we can set up a hunt (your property is a great place to start). HH,
Donny

I have a Ace 250 and went out yesterday. I got as many mosquito bites as I did coins. Great detector for the money

Man that bites. Have a yard sale or sell something(s) you are not fond of or use anymore such as a bicycle, an old set of golf clubs. I don't use the Ace250 but from what I am reading and the cost $200-$250 it is a good machine to start with. Hope you get your fix soon. HH Roy

HI unearthly: DOWSE, works for some heheheh Clothes hangers are cheap. Details in the Dowsing room.

Try to locate a local metal detecting club, most members are extremely generous people and love to show / help a new comer even to loaning a detector. Who knows , someone may just donate an older model to you.

When you get your detector, its an awesome hobby. In the meantime if you really cant stand it. I have found some great things in the corners of carwashes where they pile the snow in the winter. or if your really lucky and a buddy owns the car wash, he will let you go through the giant vacuum. I know it might sound silly...but it scratches the itch..lol. Hh dave

just a helpful hint....getting the detector will not scratch the itch either....somehow it just seems to make it worse! and it is as you have seen INCURABLE so get used to itching! ;) My suggestion would be to find someone in your area that metal detects either through a local treasure club, local detector store or here on t-net and offer to go along and help dig.....that will give you some experience in how to dig without leaving craters, learn from someone who has some experience and you get to be a part of the finds process and maybe have a garage sale to get enough money to atleast get an ACE250! Best of luck to you! looking forward to seeing your finds! :D

While your waiting on getting your metal detecter...study your towns history!!were are the old schools?were was the church meetings held ?were did the kids play back then? main thing, just talk to people!you will be surprised by what you can learn from old timers! The treasure is there, just have to find it!!believe me im still looking. lol..

Your Question about ''can i find things with out having detector''' Yes!! May not be coins ..But go to old dump sights! Remember one mans junk another mans treasure!!! mabe indian arrows! old bottles..Garage sales!

Should see me when i find somthing good 8)I do this little dance.and dont relize how stupid i look.. lol..so yes it gets pretty exciting!! good luck!!

What Coinshooter said. Start making lists of potential spots. Maybe begin asking permission, or at least finding out who you must ask (sometimes a hunt in and of itself). Do some hiking to see is you can find old home sites or abandoned spots of interest. Chenango County and most other Upstate counties have oodles of public land, though I have had differing opinions on whether MD is allowed on game lands, state forests and public access spots (it's not in the State Parks with tiny exceptions on sand beaches).

You can also start downloading manuals of porential detectors and perusing them for features and functions to have a better informed final choice.

Is there a metal detector club in your area? Good place to get an intro.

Bernard's Bay? Near Cleveland? Near Sylvan Beach?

Aren't you across from something called "Frenchman's Island" that played a role in the war of 1812?

Is this island private property? If it's a park maybe you could find a boat and row on over and go explore.

There used to be a place my cousin went to horseshow's all the time - um Stonebarn Castle I think. They had a collection of all kinds of stuff in the barns and used to give tours. Maybe they'd let you look around the horse show area. I'd say MD the horse show rings but you don't have your detector yet. You'd be surprised how much jewelry falls off someone when the fall off their horse. LOL

Even without a detector you could walk along Sylvan Beach and see what you see. See what I mean? ROFL
