So I ask for Large dollar coins. The teller pulls out an envelope opens it up and looks inside. Then she pulls out 6 Ikes and puts it on the counter with some coins still in the envelope. I tell her I would like to buy them all and she says those are being saved for another client. I said ok and could I take a look at them anyway. She said no they are the same as the Ikes she is selling me.

Completely annoying. If I had an account there I would have said something. I am planning to call back today to see if the coins are still there and if I could buy them if this customer doesn't show up.

I doubt those coins were Ikes, but they could have been.

That's just irritating, why would she go through the trouble of pulling them out and saying they were reserved for someone else when a simple, "sorry, but another customer has these saved" would have worked?

I bet she was saving them for herself. They were either better than Ikes or they were also Ikes. If they were also Ikes than she doesn't know what she's doing, not worth a hassle to keep some Ikes.

reading this makes me sad haha i'm sorry man

Most likely though they were simply saved for a customer. I mean, I have banks that will call me, or at least give me first shot of any halves/Ikes that walk in the door.

Yeah should have just said they were for another customer. I see how it can be annoying. You just want to be like I'm here I want to buy them so sell them to me. Too bad banks don't work like stores, if you refused to sell something to a customer who had the money right there you would get fired I bet.
Speaking up would only lose your reputation with the bank as well. What can ya do though.

if they got "regular customers" who have accounts with them that request coins on a steady basis --many banks will "save" the coins for their "account customers" to pick up and not give them to "non account holders" --its their way to get you to "open a account with us"

The thing is though, the exact same thing would have happened in a store. For example, if I called up my coin dealer and said to keep out 15 high-grade Standing Liberty Quarters for me to buy later in the week, chances are he'd do that, and if someone came and offered the same amount of money for the coins he'd say that he was saving them for someone.

If Diogenes were searching for a man with wisdom instead of honesty, he would stop after reading your reply.

Be happy - another dump bank has been found!!!

Haha good story, I know how you feel

Something like that happened to me the other day. I spotted a bunch of silver rims in the bottom on the tellers coin tray and asked if I could have them. He proceeded to say "Oh, those are fake" Oh really, they dont look fake? And then he said something like "and even if they were silver i wouldn't just give them to you" Haha I wish I had an account there, I would have had a little more leverage
