I took off work early and went to the 1879 church again today. I went along the sidewalk toward the library and there was so many pulltab and foil signals that I just about gave up on it. I decided to try and hunt in coin mode with sensitivity all the way down. I got a real strong dime signal at 4 inches and out pops this sterling pistol badge/pin. Can anyone tell me what the 1K means below the sterling on it?...I also found 2 quarters, 2 dimes and 2 nickels stacked in one hole.I ended up with 3 quarters, 7 dimes, 2 nickels and 6 pennies with no old coins at all. It has been in the upper 70's but today it was 37F and the wind would cut right through you. Happy hunting to you all.

Army Marksmanship Badges (by the Institute of Heraldry, US Army)

1. Description: Expert: A white metal (silver, nickel and rhodium), 1.17 inches in height, a cross patee with the representation of a target placed on the center thereof and enclosed by a wreath. Sharpshooter: A white metal (silver, nickel, and rhodium), 1 inch in height, a cross patee with the representation of a target placed on the center thereof. Marksman: A white metal (silver, nickel, and rhodium), 1 inch in height, a cross patee.

Your's is the "Sharpshooter Badge" with the circles (bullseye), the "Marksman Badge" would be sans bullseye. Looks like this style has been around since 1921.

Read all about it here (2/3 down the page): http://www.militarymuseum.org/MarksmanshipBadges.html
