Well not really a new boat, but its new to me,shes a 1968 40 foot striker aluminum Sportfish
soon to be converted over to be my treasure hunting boat,i just need to build 2 blowers for her.she was built in holland, has 2 DAF diesel turbo charged 185hp engines.she weighs 14,000lbs.My uncle in ft lauderdale gave her to me,since hes in his late 90's an the boat was too much for him to handle at his age.1 day before hurricane wilma hit the east coast the boat took on enough rain water to fill the engine room, him an his son pumped it all out,ive been down there the past 3 weeks drying things out,i got all the water out of both engines an fuel tanks, got both engines running, plus had to do a bunch of rewireing, its amazing what electrolisis will do to wires when the batteries are still connected.had to replace a few breakers an switches.its pretty much ready to go,i have to go back down an meet a guy thats gonna pump the remaining diesel out of the tanks an clean the tanks with this new device, then put the cleaned fuel back in the tanks.i need the tanks cleaned anyway since im in the process of making biodiesel out of waste veggie oil.i plan on bringing it to the sebastian area,or new smyrna or daytona, just need to find a private dock to park it at for cheep.her name is Caribe, kind of a fitting name for a treasure boat.heres a pic before wilma shreded the bimini top.

What a boat!! Hope shes up and running soon! That must cost alot to fill up with fuel :( But the biodeisel is practically free right?

I'm currently employed by a custom sport fishing yacht company. To prevent electrolysis, we install an exterior anode plate and bond everything in the boat that can corrode, to the anode. It's a matter of changing the plate periodical rather than the components in the boat.

Look into getting this done. It'll save you a lot of grief.

Bob,
Striker yachts was way ahead of its time as far as thier tech goes for aluminum boats, the boat has several exterior anodes 2 under the hull,on both stainless steel drive shafts,on the stainless steel rudders.i checked out the boat everywhere inside an out an theres not one bit of electrolysis anywhere.plus you have to use a copper based bottom paint.im well aware of aluminum products as i was in the automotive an aircraft industry for over 30 yrs as a painter/bodyman/marine mechanic.painting everything from bikes to 747's.thanx anyway..

Fisheye, congratulations! I have been out on Striker yachts, they are very good boats for treasure hunting. Bob ?Frogfoot? Weller has one just like it.

congratulation fisheye,

You are going to know what a great treasure finder is the striker.
I used one exactly as yours for 7 years and found lots of shipwrecks
here in the "rio de la plata" south america.
we had Klein s.s.s., Gem magnetometer ,DGPS ,Bauer hp compressor
20 tanks, hooka, metal detectors and a lots more stuff.
we could spend a week far from the coast without problems.
be careful with the electrolisis put more zincs than nessesary.
the only problem is that it is a little slow 10-12 knots.
best wishes
ruso

Thats an awesome boat man congratulations on getting a hold of her,I hope shes up and running soon.

thanx everyone,
well i will be moving the boat from ft lauderdale in about 1 1/2 weeks.looks like me an wreckdiver1715 will be neighbors as i found a private dock to park the boat at in satellite beach 1.2 miles south of where wreckdiver1715 has his boat.the dock owner is really cool with me working on the boat there as he is in the middle of restoring a 50 foot wood sailboat in his driveway,he said no problem with doing any sandblasting grinding or paintwork an welding.so it looks like ill be there for a long time an its only 24 miles to sebastian inlet.plus i get use of thier swimming pool:)now where are all those babes that like to cruise the intercoastal?

have a happy new year everyone!

John, welcome to the neighborhood! I received your phone message yesterday, and I will give you a call later this morning after I go into the office. It?s very difficult to find good dockage in Satellite Beach at a reasonable rate these days. When I purchased Enterprise two years ago, she was at the Kennedy Point Marina up in Titusville; dock fees were over $300.00 a month + electricity, and that seemed to be about average for this part of the ICW back then. I?m only paying about 1/3 that amount at my current dockage, and my house is just a quarter mile from the marina. Give me a holler when you need a second pair of hands.

How do we live with ourselves down here! It?s going to be 75 today, and in the 80?s by the weekend.

Talk to ya soon
