This morning, I checked the same area where I found the 1/2" flat button last week. It's full of pull tabs and junk, so it's tough going. But I decided to dig all signals today and came up with three dropped musket balls in 30 minutes! It must be a spill, since I found a fourth musket ball there last year.

I'm not positive, but I believe they are 44 caliber balls. I don't have a caliper, but they measure more than 7/16" of an inch, but less than 1/2". That should make them .44 balls, I think. Got to get myself a caliper if I'm going to keep finding musket balls!

Here's a picture of them all together:

Very nice finds! Finding a musket ball is high on my list!

I usually find them by chance. If I'm having a slow day, I use the jewelry setting with the sensitivity one notch from the top and dig everything. They come up as pull tabs or sometimes it hops over to the penny setting. I've found all of mine in the 4 to 6 inch range.

The musket balls around here come out of the ground the same color as the dirt they are in, so they can be tough to spot, especially smaller ones like these guys. Good luck finding one soon!

Good job. I love finding musketballs, even fired ones. I have a couple the same size as yours, but more of them of the larger size,
including the .69 British ones. Good luck finding more.

Great finds from our Nation's history. Will look fantastic in a display.

Thank you! I've only found one .69 so far. They are HUGE compared to these little guys. HH.

Thanks! I will definitely have to find a way to display my musket balls. Half the fun of detecting is showing off your finds to friends and relatives! Not much fun if they just sit in a drawer...

Love finding round musket balls and three in one day is terrific!
