I found this underneath one of the decks of my house while raking leaves out from under there during spring cleaning. I live in Laconia, NH on one of the oldest roads in town and from what I understand there used to be an old farmhouse that sat right where our current house is located. It looks like a nail or key to me. What do you all think?

How long is it? Normally a coin , matchbox, ruler etc. is used to give a sense of scale.

knock the crud off so we can see it better . from what I can see I'm going to guess it's a gate hinge . If you happened to find that on high street it may have been my grandfathers. he had a home there in the 1920s and maybe before that.

Reminds me of a rusted Spam can key.

To me, it just looks like a rusted nail or something similar, nothing special. I recommend getting a metal detector especially if you live on as old of a street and you say. Its at least 50 years old given the rust so if that was on the surface who knows what under the ground.

looks like a nail to me....they can take on different forms during the rusting process such as these recent ones I dug.
