I was told it could have been a cape clasp possibly Confederate, but still lookingBeautiful piece - My first thought was that it might be the center portion of a two-piece waist belt buckle or plate (likely non-regulation militia) that could have been repurposed. The droop winged eagle is really cool and could be early 1800s or even Confederate (Confederate pieces often have a droop winged eagle with no Federal shield on its chest).
