🔎 UNIDENTIFIED I found this screw type piece? It’s either a weird screw I’ve never seen before or a gun sight adjustment knob? Not sure but it’s steel.

I took the pictures after I found it while at the store*. I have never seen a screw like this but it does look like it could be a gun sight adjustment knob maybe? I’m not sure and google gave me no similar results for either a similar knob or screw if it’s just a weird screw.

Looks like a screw that controls a valve of some type.

It's a knurled thumbscrew, but I can't place the application.
Maybe a pressure release for a hydraulic jack(?)

Is it broken or twisted off? Captive screw without retaining washer is a good guess as Doubter suggests.

Certainly not a gun sight adjustment. Off some sort of machinery most likely, but hard to say what. Not terribly old, the phillips screw wasn't invented until the 1930's.

It looks a lot like a mounting screw for camera equipment or tripods.

I'm going with a set screw also due to the flat bottom of the screw.

I’m not seeing the set screw idea; at least by my definition. I guess I’d need to see the screw tip better. Possibly I missed something. 👍🏼
