I found this today while metal detecting near a pre-1872 cellar hole. I believe this particular home was torn (or burned) down before 1900, but there were others in the vicinity, and people still walk around there today.
I'm not quite sure about the type of metal.

My brain went to rope/cable thimble/guide 1st also... except, have never seen the "ears" on more modern thimbles. Also wondering if rope strong enough to require a thimble could have been manufactured at that small a diameter back in that time period??

Now...Barbie garden hose hanger??? One more beer and that's actually gonna seem pretty darn plausible.

The rope loop thimble thing is interesting. I've never heard of those before. It doesn't look exactly like any that I found pictures of, but I can imagine it. It doesn't seem like it loops around in enough of a circle but maybe they were different way back or maybe it was something else yet.

Just a guess, but maybe a maple syrup tree tap? Seems they're a few different designs of these things and it looks like a bucket could be hung on it.??

...I don't think Ken is gonna be too happy to hear that - not after the flack he got about the water hose being all over the lawn! :laughing7:
